Whether you dread the changing seasons or embrace them, winter is here and spring is just around the corner. Seasons change but risks are here to stay, and when you’re taking on projects around the house, there’s always a chance that you could wind up making a mistake and ending up in worse shape than you started.

Here are a few tips to take advantage to help tackle preparing your home for spring.

Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Safety should always be number one and fire precautions should be taken on the regular. Make sure all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working in your home. Have smoke alarms in every room, including hallways. Home maintenance should include checking alarm batteries once a month.

Entryways

All that snow, ice and mud can wreak havoc on your entryway floors. Place mats both inside and outside the door, along with boot trays inside the entryway.  Prepare your mudroom with a place to dry any wet clothes.

Make sure the steps leading to your home are free from tripping hazards and repair concrete as needed. Move your snow shovels to an area near the door for easy reach.

Check for air leaks around windows and doors, including cracks in caulking or weatherstripping; and replace caulk and weatherstripping if necessary. Read More...
